Description:

Job Purpose: Performs electrical tasks/activities associated with electrical metering installations, maintenance and repair sequences in accordance with laid down procedures.

Duties: Installing new metering services and upgrades including metering equipment and installations   Commissioning and decommissioning of electrical post-paid and prepayment meter installations  Identify installation deviations in terms of South African National Standard (SANS) 10142 and National Rational Standards (NRS) 057, for example incorrect polarity or overheating terminations caused by unsatisfactory connections, etc. Record meter readings (bulk), meter audits and electrical network recording information (maintenance programs, service connections) Standardise all tariff indexes on pre-payment meters as per approved Council Tariff policy  Interpret basic electrical wiring and circuit diagrams  Install, repair, and maintain LV networks under instruction of the immediate superior Terminating/joining cables, wires etc. to junction boxes, connecting terminals including soldering, fitting of lugs and harnessing wires  Operate lifting machinery (Cherry picker) Execute the monthly inspection, installation, repair, labelling and maintenance of distribution kiosks Repairs and maintenance of traffic lights by re-lamping, replacing damaged heads and poles, painting traffic light poles etc. Assist with new service installations of electricity at new development and electrification projects Check and control the application of laid down procedures in respect of storage and care of tools, materials, and specific equipment Responsible for the safeguarding of vehicles and equipment Supply direction and advice to personnel and give relevant training where necessary Adheres to occupational health and safety technical standards and safety legislation by complying with procedures, policies instructions and guidelines.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 10 or N1 in Electrical Engineering
  • 2Years relevant experience
  • Code C1 Driver’s License + PrDP
  • Proficient in at least two (2) of the three (3) official languages in the Western Cape

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Accredited Electrician Trade Test
  • 3 years relevant experience
